Leicester city manager Claude Puel has openly pleaded with Riyad Mahrez to return to the squad though it is not yet certain when that will happen.
Puel confirmed Sportsmail’s story that the Algerian winger will miss Saturday’s trip to Manchester City but refused to bring to light plethora of details as regards the return of the winger, details such as the coach not saying if he had spoken to Riyad Mahrez since his absence began on 30th January, if he knows his (Mahrez) where about, or if he could give a specific date on a return.
On the confirmation of City’s interest in Riyad Mahraz, The 2016 PFA Player of the Year then handed in a transfer request but it appears Leicester city were not ready to let the Algerian international leave until certain conditions were met
Leicester city proposed a player-plus-cash deal rising up to £90m, but City who were not willing to spend more than £60m walked away from the deal leaving Mahrez to dry out.
The coach went further to say “Riyad will be not available for Saturday’s game against Manchester City,’ Puel said.
“I hope Riyad can get his head right and to come back with us, to hard work, to see for him the best way is to come back and enjoy his football.
“Riyad is a magnificent player, he loves football, he loves his relationship with his friends, his teammates, he enjoys his football.
The French man was quoted as saying “I think he needs to come back to play, to touch the ball. It’s important.
“I don’t want to give details about our relation. It is important all details remain inside the club and not in the public.
“It is important to keep the players, the fans united about all these difficulties and remain the good way about this.
“I want to protect all the squad, it is the most important thing. I am impressed with my players for their professional attitude.’
The 56-year-old puel said he understood fans’ frustrations going further to say “The bad thing for me is he loves the football. He is not just a player who treats football like work, he enjoys the pitch, to stay after training sessions.
“He will come back with a good attitude and good level. When he will come back he will need time to get the match fitness.
“I can understand all the opinion about Riyad.”
